Over 98 km walked over 3 days, over 20 hours of walking. Thanks to the generous donations of about 20 people, we raised $800 to support the AVA.

Friday, Mar 29th. Started at 4:45am…
Hazel Dell: Started at Oh Dark Hundred outside the Black Rock Café. I look like I’m not sure what the heck I’m getting into!

Ran across a Poetry box in the woods on Burnt Bridge Creek Trail.

Roses are red,    Violets are blue.
I gotta bend down,    And tie my shoe!

Ok, 10 km down.

Felida: Panda gives me the raspberry as we enter Raspberry Fields Park. Herzog Farm Estate is at the halfway point.

WSU: There are a couple of landmarks on the WSU walk which starts at the Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital. After a detour through Vista Meadows, the route goes through the campus. A major feature in the center of the campus is the Firstenburg Fountains, not active today. And in the woods behind the campus is the "bell".

Tech Center Park: Stopped home, dropped off Panda, grabbed a shower and a change. Ready to tackle the next 3 walks.  This walk winds through the upscale Westridge neighborhood and  through a picturesque park.

Camas: Two trails, one at Round Lake and other follows Lacamas Lake out and back. Nice Trillium and Waterfall on the Round Lake trail. Quite rugged, with lots of roots and rocks. Glad I finished before dark. Accompanied by Susan Treacy and Tom Baltes.

Finished the Lacamas Lake trail in the dark thanks to some excellent pace setting by Tom. They had barricaded the road with flares which turned out to be a motorcycle fatality. Sad. However we met a kindred spirit on our way back who had hiked the Appalachian Trail in his youth and kept up with us as we blistered our way back to finish. Turns out we both knew several of the running legends from my high school and college days in upstate NY and the conversation helped take my mind off of tender undersoles.

Saturday, Mar 30th. Started at 5:30am…
Washougal: The Steigerwald Nature Preserve doesn’t allow dogs so I made up for it by walking the length of the Dike and back (8 miles) and an extra loop through Washougal for a total of 16 km. This is the tunnel you have to go through to get to the Dike. Looks a bit eerie at 5:30am.

Spectacular sunrise over the River at the end of the dike! Truly breathtaking. The picture doesn’t do it justice. The gates are as far as you can go before you have to turn back. Plenty of wildlife to see  along the way.

Stevenson: Kept it under the trees as much as possible. Panda was in fine fettle scampering up and down the rock and root studded trails. The Orange Trail is moderately hilly and takes you along a stream bed and several golf holes. The Green Trail is quite hilly and goes into Zip Line territory.

Beautiful scenery on both sides, like this view of Hamilton Mountain.

North Bonneville:  When we arrived, the sun was high in the sky and a light breeze was blowing. Panda was starting to show signs of slowing down, so we cut it short at 4km

We came back on Sunday to collect the remaining distance and I took along my daughter and we took it nice and easy. The Sasquatch were out in force!
98 km - Finished!

Hi, my name is Bob Hall and I joined All Weather Walkers last year and started walking seriously last summer before I retired in August. During my career, I spent several decades hunched over a computer and developed a chronic back ache. When I retired I vowed to take the dog for long walks every day. Guess what? No more back ache!  I am doing these challenges to repay AVA for the benefits I have enjoyed.
